Variety of Breeds but typically layers (eg: brown egg layers; hyline, bovan, tetra) At times we have more dual purpose breeds like RI REDS or Sexlinks Age may vary, but usually 100+ weeks. These Happy Hens have some miles on them with them being raised in a true 3 season pasture/foraging operation Raised on 100% organically cared for ground & only fed highest quality grain and mineral ration rolled and mixed fresh weekly. 100% Non-GMO ingredients. These hens will still be strong, healthy layers, just to much diversity in egg size and shell quality to work in our system. Or ready for a hearty, full flavor broth or soup. The way your Grandma use to cook here special chicken noodle soup that is impossible to mimic with fast grown broilers. It’s a flavor like no other that’s hard to describe, until you try it. With them being older, we typically just skin them due to the difficulty in plucking with pin feathers, and it going to be a bit drier with a deep texture. It’s a staple in our freezer year round. Once we get some free time, we process a group and load up our wood fired smoker, then shred and package vacuum sealed!! Simple as that, and you will have the best Tamales or Chicken Tacos around. |
